The denizen: GRACE WRIGHT'S ARTIST IN RESIDENCE EXHIBITION OPENS SOON AT PARLOUR PROJECTS

30 May 2017

Colour is a key element of Grace Wright’s work. The young painter graduated from Elam with honours in 2014 and has since held multiple solo and group exhibitions throughout the country, gaining a remarkable reputation in the process.

Her style is loose yet controlled, with an emphasis on contrast that makes her pieces uniformly strong, commanding, and dramatic.

Selected as the 2017 recipient of the artist-in-residency programme at Parlour Projects, Wright has created a large-scale installation measuring 11 x 6 metres on the gallery’s main viewing wall. This work is one of six pieces that will feature alongside the installation at her solo exhibition Breathing Room, opening at Parlour Projects this Friday.

Describing the project as her “most ambitious to date,” Wright says, “the work was about developing my ideas around the pleasure of viewing and taking it from looking to experiencing.”

‘Breathing Room’ will be showing from 2nd June to 1st July at Parlour Projects. The public is invited to attend the opening night this Friday from 5.30-7pm.
